Episode Review: Pretty Little Liars "Monsters in the End"

Okay, so I'm admittedly a little behind in reviewing this show (what with the season finale being on Monday and all), but I didn't have a blog when it came out so don't hold it against me.  Before I get on with the review, let me start with how I came to start watching this show to begin with.  I was reading through messages on a Desperate Housewives forum (another show I love and will be reviewing here) and I saw a message about a new show premiering on ABC Family in a couple days that was supposed to be a "teenage version of DH".  I was curious so I decided to check it out, and I was hooked after the first episode.  While it started out as a light, fluffy show with a decent mystery, it has quickly become much more dark and twisted (and the mystery has only gotten better!),,it's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.  I'm not even ashamed to admit it.  I'd highly advise checking it out sometime, it really does draw you in.  It stars Troian Bellisario as Spencer Hasting, Lucy Hale as Aria Montgomery, Ashley Benson as Hanna Marin, Shay Mitchell as Emily Fields and Sasha Pieterse as Alison DeLaurentis.  The series is based on a book series by Sara Shepard, I have the books and they're also very good but overall distinctly different from the show.  Anyway, now that I have all of that out of the way allow me to get on with the review.  I'll leave it after the jump so as not to spoil it for people who may have yet to watch it (though since it aired on Monday I doubt that I have to worry, but it's better to be on the safe side)

First of all, let me say that this episode was great!  As I said above, the mystery has gotten really twisted and this episode furthered that.  The main premise of this episode was centered around the Rosewood Founder's Day Festival, something that all of the girls were attending.  But the girls have a lot going on right now in their lives, dealing with the mystery of who is behind  the identity of "A", the person that has been seemingly been stalking them for quite some time, as well as trying to find out who is responsible for the death of their friend Alison.

Unfortunately for Spencer, the Rosewood Police are looking at her as their current main suspect in Ali's death.  She's trying to work with her friends and new friend/love interest Toby Cavanaugh (Keegan Allen) to prove her innocence and prove that her brother-in-law Ian (Ryan Merriman) is  the one who is really responsible.  After her mother forbids her from seeing Toby (the former suspect in the case) until everything blows over, Spencer makes plans to meet up with him at the Festival.  Things go awry when she gets a message from "A" disguised as Toby and she ends up getting locked inside of a revolving closet, only to be rescued by Ian.

Hanna's life has been turned upside down because her now ex-boyfriend Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) has been spying on her for an enemy that the girls all share- Toby's blind sister Jenna (Tammin Sursok).  Caleb reveals to Hanna that Jenna paid him to find a key- but he wasn't sure what kind of key it was. The mystery as to what key Jenna was looking for was solved when Emily found a key to a storage unit inside of a snow globe that Alison had given her the day she disappeared. In the storage unit was an old lunchbox with a flash drive on it, which contained videos of the girls.  It was made clear that someone has been spying on them for a long time.

Meanwhile, Aria was upset because her boyfriend/English teacher Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding) had an old fiance he hadn't told her about.  She felt like he was hiding things from her so she confronted him and he admitted everything to her.  After Aria left his apartment to meet up with her friends, a cop who has been watching the girls knocked on Ezra's door, telling him he needed to talk to him about one of his students.  Does he know what's going on between him and Aria?  Hopefully we'll find out on the finale.

Overall this episode gets a 9/10.  It was good, moved the story along and a lot happened (more than what I wrote, I shared the highlights) to set up the finale which looks INTENSE.  This show has been good at ending every episode with a cliffhanger, here's hoping that the finale delivers a BANG! Look out for the season finale review this Tuesday!

Well, I'm still behind one blog post that I want to do, but I'll be doing that tomorrow.  I'm off to relax for the night, but be on the lookout for new entries coming your way!!
